Prepare for your Farmshelf

Power

Farmshelf uses a single power cable that plugs into a standard home outlet (120 VAC/8 amp).

Your unit should never be unplugged while in use.

The use of extension cords is highly discouraged.

PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS

Choosing the right spot for your Farmshelf is important for its optimal performance. The unit is designed to operate in environments controlled for human comfort, such as living spaces, offices, restaurants, and schools.

Ensure there is at least 3 inches of space on each side of your Farmshelf for proper ventilation and avoid placing it in areas like attics, basements, closets, or garages.

Do not place your Farmshelf next to heat-generating appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, or space heaters

Dimensions: Width: 46.25 inches, Depth: 27.5 inches, Height: 77.75 inches

LIGHT GUIDELINES:

A unique feature of your Farmshelf is the residual glow from the LED lights. There is no need to place your Farmshelf near a window, as the built-in LED lighting provides the optimal spectrum for plant growth.

Consider this factor when selecting the ideal location for your Farmshelf. If needed, you can temporarily reduce the brightness using the dimming feature accessible via the touchscreen. However, we do not recommend using the dimming feature for prolonged periods, as it will result in slower plant growth.

TEMPERATURE + HUMIDITY GUIDELINES:

Temperature: Do not operate your Farmshelf in spaces where the temperature consistently exceeds 26°C (78.8°F). High temperatures can negatively impact plant health and may damage the hardware over time.

Humidity: Avoid using the Farmshelf in areas where the relative humidity consistently exceeds 50%. High humidity levels can also lead to poor plant health and potential hardware damage.

NOISE LEVELS:

Your Farmshelf, during its standard operating state which is approx. 70-80% of the plant growth cycle will have an average noise level of 40-45 dB (soft).

When all peripherals are operating simultaneously—such as when new seedlings are in the nursery while mature plants are on the grow shelf, or when you have just transplanted seedlings to the main grow shelves—noise levels will increase to an average of 60-65 dB (moderate).

Wi-Fi / Ethernet

Internet connection is required for your Farmshelf subscription and customer support.

NOTE: If your Farmshelf internet connection is disrupted or regularly offline, your Farmshelf’s warranty may be impacted. Please contact support@farmshelf.com with any questions.

INTERNET FAQ:

Can I start my crop cycle without my Farmshelf being connected to the internet?
Yes, you can start your seeds in the nursery without the internet. However, before moving your seeds to the grow shelves (2 weeks from the seeds going into the nursery) your Farmshelf must be connected to the internet.

Why is an internet connection required?
Your Farmshelf has several functions to ensure automation, safety of the plants, and a successful grow cycle. It also means that the Farmshelf team can easily data and help to troubleshoot any issues that may crop up on-demand.

Are there networks the Farmshelf will not connect to?
Yes. Make sure your Farmshelf is not connected to the following: Guest Wi-Fi networks, networks without a password, External Validation Window networks or Networks with Firewall Protection.

Plumbing Hookups

Farmshelf is a no-soil system that allows plants to live exclusively in water.

You’re able to choose how you’d like to water your Farmshelf - either by purchasing one of our easy-to-use, rolling water carts or by connecting right into your municipal plumbing system.

NOTE: A professional plumber is required for municipal water hookup. For exact Farmshelf hookup specifications, please check out this link.

Before your Farmshelf is delivered you’ll receive an email that will allow you to select between the two available options.

It’s highly encouraged to use gloves while operating the Farmshelf water or nutrients.
